Ukulele Sound Samples

All sample on this page are preformed by Chad Silva. Some of the samples are songs, but others are just him noodling.

Chad works at Island Bazaar in Huntington Beach, CA

Curly Myrtle with Denim Spruce top Tenor

This tenor ukulele has very curly myrtle back and sides with a float log "denim" spruce top.

The top is from a log that floated a houseboat in a remote Alaskan lake. Minerals from the water and the nails and brackets that held the wood in place not only stained the wood, but makes the wood a little lighter and stiffer.

The Mullet Tenor

I call this one the Mullet because its "business in the front (cedar) and party in the back (crazy koa).

This tenor has a very powerful sound with sustain that lasts for days. Its tone is right between the warmth of koa and the brightness of spruce.

Rustic Koa Tenor

This tenor ukulele is all solid slightly curly koa with paua abalone accents. It has that warm koa sound, but has a little more volume than a lot of koa ukes I have played.

Curly Blonde and Chocolate Myrtle Tenor

This tenor ukulele is made of two kinds of Oregon Myrtle. The top is very curly blonde colored myrtle. The back and sides are a very uniquely patterned chocolate myrtle.

This uke has a warm sound, but is also very articulate and has a lot of "color" in its voice.

Sycamore and Ash Tenor

This tenor is a remake of the Street Tree Revival concert uke. Ric at Hale Ukulele liked the concert so much he ordered a tenor.

You can really go after this uke without it losing its tone. I don't know if it is a characteristic of the Ash top or the sycamore, but I can see a build with ash top and a different back and sides in the near future. I have a nice set of walnut hmm.......

Abe's Claro Walnut and Denim Spruce Tenor

This Ukulele is my second true custom build. It was nice that once the customer picked his woods, he pretty much let me use my best judgement on pretty much everything. It turns out we both have pretty similar tastes.

This Claro Walnut uke with a Denim spruce turned out very nice. The bright clear sound will contrast nicely with the koa instruments he already has.

Please excuse the Christmas music in the background.

Port Orford Cedar and Malaysian Blackwood tenor

This is my first ukulele with a Port Orford Cedar top. I had heard great things, but the couple I had played hadn't been very impressive.

A luthier friend told me it was all about the right thickness and bracing when using POC, so I gave it a shot. I paired it with a Malaysian Blackwood back and sides.

The projection on this uke is amazing, but it also holds its tone when played softly.

Ilene' Myrtle and Cedar Tenor

Sound sample by Chad.

Ilene wanted a cedar top with a lot of resonance and warmth. The cedar had a wonderful tap tone. Combined with a beautiful myrtle body, I think this ukulele fills the bill.

“Sea Glass” Denim Spruce and Curly Ambrosia Maple Tenor

This is my first time using Ambrosia Maple and it turned out very well. A couple who were in the store while Chad was playing bought this ukulele the next day.

Solid Koa Tenor

OK, so I’m starting to run out of names for some of my Koa instruments.

Nothing really jumped out at me during the build, but it does have a very beautiful sound.
