This solid Koa tenor has a beautiful copper color with a light stripe up the middle.
Every time I picked up this instrument to work on it, it reminded me of a shiny new penny, hence the name.
I love the delicate curl in this wood. It is very pleasant without slapping you in the face.
The tone is warm and sweet, as you would expect in a Koa tenor.
The back matches the front but has a little less white, but still has the pretty curl.
I didn't add a rosewood back strip this time. It sort of had a natural dark stripe down the back and I didn't want to disrupt it.
The accents are a Big Leaf Maple Burl that is really interesting.
The neck is African Mahogany (Khaya sp.) with a carbon fiber truss rod.
The fingerboard and bridge are East Indian rosewood. Nut and saddle are natural water buffalo bone.
As always, there is a side soundport. The sides match the top and back very nicely.
This picture really shows the shiny penny look of this uke.
The thin rosette and purfling are Paua Abalone with thin black and white striping around the borders
