This solid Koa tenor beautiful golden color with dark striping. The two most prominent stripes come right through the corners of the bridge sort of like a Fu Manchu mustache.
This piece of koa was quite dense and wasn't as porous as a lot of the koa I get. This denseness gives this tenor quite a bit of projection. My quality control person commented that it seems almost louder the farther up the neck you play.
The back is so much like the front, it was hard to keep track of which was which until I installed the rosette.
I did add an East Indian rosewood back strip which matches the binding.
The accents are a Coolibah Burl that goes really well the dark koa.
The neck is African Mahogany (Khaya sp.) with a carbon fiber truss rod.
The fingerboard and bridge are East Indian rosewood. Nut and saddle are natural water buffalo bone.
As always, there is a side soundport. The sides match the top and back very nicely.
The sound of this uke is very mellow and warm, yet still projects very well.
The thin rosette and purfling are Paua Abalone with thin black and white striping around the borders
