This solid Koa tenor has a little lighter color than normal, but had very delicate curl and a faint green stripe just outside of the light stripe in the middle, hence the name "Rainbow".
This uke was sold literally as soon as it entered the store. The customer had called Island Bazaar about a month before asking if they had any PCH Koa tenors in stock. They didn't, but they told him I was making one for them. They let him know the delivery date and he drove up from San Diego to meet the ukulele as I walked in the store.
The back is so much like the front.
The heal cap is a brown mallee burl.
The end graft and the back of the head stock is the same brown mallee burl.
The binding is East Indian rosewood.
The neck is Honduran Mahogany with a carbon fiber truss rod.
The fingerboard and bridge are East Indian rosewood. Nut and saddle are natural water buffalo bone.
As always, there is a side soundport. The sides show the green stripe a little better, but unfortunately I couldn't really capture it in the photos.
The sound of this uke is nice and warm. It projects very well and is very articulate. It will be a great uke for a finger picker.
The rosette and purfling are Paua Abalone trimmed with thin black and white. The rosette is a little wider than I normally use, but it works very nicely with the light Koa.
