The name of this uke is "Wide Neck" for an obvious reason. Ric at Hale Ukulele wanted a uke with an extra wide neck, so we went with a 1-5/8th" nut. It takes away a little bit of the elegance of the neck, but there is plenty of room for chubby fingers.
The back matches the front with a nice understated curl.
The back stripe and binding are East Indian rosewood.
I have recently found out that there is a North Indian rosewood too, but it is not as hard or dark as the Eastern variety.
The accents are a gold amboyna burl that is really interesting.
The tuners are Black Interplanetary tuners from Gotoh.
The neck is Honduran Mahogany with a carbon fiber truss rod.
The fingerboard and bridge are East Indian rosewood. Nut and saddle are natural water buffalo bone.
As always, there is a side soundport. The sides match the top and back very nicely.
I really like the curl and color on these sides.
The rosette and purfling are Paua Abalone with thin black and white striping around the borders. I went with a little thicker rosette this time for a little more bling.
